Two City Councillors want the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to develop a Municipal Price Index for municipalities.
A motion for City Council from Clive Doucet and Christine Leadman says the MPI would help municipalities based on their Quality of Life Indicators research.
The two Councillors say the costs of managing and operating a municipality are based on a different basket of goods and services than those used to calculate the Consumer Price Index.
It adds understanding the cost structure of the inputs required to operate Canadian cities is essential to better governance.
