The lagging economy isn't hurting the city's weekend dedicated to athleticism and charity.
More than 36 000 people are taking part in Ottawa Race Weekend.
Through the MDS Nordian Challenge, a record amount of money was raised for the Ottawa Hospital.
Spokesperson Ingrid Gingras tells CFRA News that organizers are 'absolutely thrilled' with this year's total.
A cheque for $835 560 is being handed to the health care facility.
Last year, the endorsement was for over $508 000.
Gingras says a number of departments and services will benefit because participants choose the destination for their donations.
Over half of the total amount came from CFRA's own Steve Madely and his 20-20 team.
