Doug Thompson will take a seat in the Mayor's Chair next week at City Hall.
The Osgoode Ward Councillor will assume the title of Acting Mayor while Larry O'Brien's criminal trial proceeds at the Elgin Street Courthouse.
Thompson told CFRA's Afternoon Edition with Rob Snow one of the biggest events for the city this summer will be the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference, which will be held in Ottawa.
Councillor Michel Bellemare will complete his term as Acting Mayor on July 8th.
Thompson says Councillor Bellemare did an "excellent" job during his two months as Acting Mayor.
If O’Brien is acquitted of the charges, he can return to work. Ontario’s Municipal Elections Act states O'Brien must be removed from office if he's convicted.
