Street Furniture Debate Will Continue
Josh Pringle with Stephanie Kinsella
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
City Staff are being sent back to the drawing board for the new Integrated Street Furniture Program.
After seven hours of debate, Staff was directed by the Transportation Committee to revise the proposal and report back in October.
The Street Furniture Program is designed to make furniture on city streets more uniform, and help generate revenue.
The furniture includes benches, bus shelters, garbage bins and benches.
Councillor Maria McRae tells CFRA News she is in favour of matching or streamlining street fixtures, but says she can't "stand" the staff proposal to reduce advertising on furniture.
Staff had recommended advertising be limited to Transit Shelters and kiosks.
