Ottawa’s Audit, Budget and Finance Committee has voted to keep the status quo for political donations.
Councillors voted 6-4 to reject a motion from Councillor Alex Cullen to ask the Ontario Government to ban corporate and union donations to municipal candidates during an election.
Cullen says donations from corporate contributors can create a relationship that’s too cozy between elected representatives and developers.
The Committee was studying proposed changes to the Municipal Elections Act from the Ontario Government.
