The City of Ottawa is working on an interactive website that will let residents know when the snowplow will clear each street.
The city has installed a Global Positioning System and material monitoring technology on each of its salt spreader vehicles this winter.
Manager of Roads and Traffic Operations Dan O'Keefe tells CFRA News the next move is to install the GPS technology on snow plowing equipment.
O'Keefe says the city is working on an interactive website that will use GPS technology to track each snowplow and inform residents when each street will be cleared.
Councillor Rick Chiarelli adds that would allow residents and snow clearing companies to plan their snow shoveling.
The GPS equipment on salt spreaders allows the city to use real time data from each salt truck to make adjustments to their operations based on the road and weather conditions and information collected.
