The union representing OC Transpo drivers is charging unfair labour practices by the Transit Service.
City Solicitor Rick O’Connor says the Amalgamated Transit Union is accusing the city of violating the Canada Labour Code over issues related to the new scheduling process, which takes effect April 1st.
In a memo to Councillors, O’Connor says a formal complaint has been filed by the union with the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
City Staff maintain the new booking policy complies with an arbitrators ruling last fall that stated the city can control OC Transpo driver schedules.
In a separate memo, Deputy City Manager Nancy Schepers says changes to the booking system result from the arbitrators ruling, and a meeting between the ATU and the Transit Service has been scheduled for March.
