A brighter economic forecast is prompting federal Conservatives to say they’re fairly confident that Canada will avoid a fall election.
Tory cabinet ministers, MP's and candidates are gathering in Ottawa to train for an election campaign, but the consensus is an improving economy will discourage the Liberals from pursing an election.
Last week, the Bank of Canada said this country is probably already out of a recession and is on a slow road to recovery.
‘By and large, I would say things are pretty positive compared to what we might have been expected. We're not out of it yet, but positive signs for sure,’ said Gary Lunn, minister of state for sport.
British Columbia colleague John Cummins calls it ‘muted optimism.’ He says difficulties in the forestry sector are still causing concerns in BC that the recession may linger.
