NDP leader Jack Layton says he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Layton says it’s the same type of cancer that his father was diagnosed with 17 years ago. Like his father, Layton says he intends to battle the disease and win.
The NDP leader says he is already undergoing treatment.
Layton also says he has no plans to resign as leader, although he will take some time off during treatment.
Layton has complained of back pain recently, which can be a symptom of prostate cancer. However, Layton says the back pain was an unrelated health issue.
