Transport Canada Probes Toyota

The Federal Government is investigating Toyota Canada’s actions following consumer concerns about the safety of its vehicles.
Transport Minister John Baird says Transport Canada will “investigate Toyota.”
“Obviously, we use the criminal law power so as minister I can’t direct the department to conduct a criminal investigation and lay criminal charges on someone,” the Transport Minister said Tuesday.
Baird added the government will look into stiffening the law on notification of problems by automakers.
Toyota Canada extended an apology to Canadians about the safety problems of their vehicles. Officials also admitted they could have notified Transport Canada about the problems sooner than they did.
