Things you Need to Know Today

 

  • Kids go back to school tomorrow at the Ottawa French Public and French Catholic schools boards, and the Quebec kids go back to school Thursday. The remaining school boards all begin one week tomorrow
  • It'll be sunny today with a high of 26. A few more clouds tomorrow and a 40% chance of showers late in the afternoon with an evening risk of a thunderstorm and a high of 25.
  • Ottawa police are looking for what they're calling an "important witness" in their investigation of a 21-year-old who was stabbed to death outside a bar on Elgin Street early Saturday morning
  • 39-year-old Michael Lumahang drowed Saturday night after jumping into the Ottawa River to help save a 12-year-old boy that had fallen in. A 24-year-old man also jumped in to help the boy make it to shore. The 24-year-old and the boy made it to shore, Lumahang did not
  • In the Middle East, new escalation in Israel's 7-weeks of fighting with Palestinians. Jets bombarded buildings associated with Hamas, including a 7-storey office building, and a shopping mall
  • Peter Hume will not run for city council again
  • In business, there are talks that Burger King and Tim Hortons may join forces
  • In sports, the question: Is Henry Burris still capable of doing the job for the REDBLACKS?
