Ottawa and the region are under a snowfall warning with 5cm expected by Saturday afternoon then another 10-15cm on the ground before Sunday morning.
West of the city along Highway 401, the snow could be followed by a brief spell of freezing rain according to Environment Canada.
The weather service says a low pressure system coming up from the United States will drop up to 10 cm of snow in a line stretching from Sarnia through Markham right to Kingston, followed by some light freezing rain
The Ottawa area is not expected to see the freezing rain.
There's an overnight parking ban in effect in the city for cars without permits. That means no parking on roads from 1-7a.m. until further notice.
Ottawa Police are also asking drivers to be safe with the slippery conditions. Police say slowing down, leaving distance between cars ahead and allowing extra time to get to your destination will make a big difference.
