The champion that was Barbara Ann Scott lives on.
She is one of three athletes to be honoured by Canada Post with her own stamp unveiled on Monday afternoon.
Scott won gold in figure skating during the 1948 Olympic Winter Games in addition to three Canadian championships and other titles.
Many of her costumes, medals and other keepsakes are part of the collection in the gallery that bears her name on the main level of Ottawa City Hall.
Curler Sandra Schmirler is also recognized as a winter sport pioneer. Schmirler and her team won the gold medal at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games, in addition to three World Curling Championships and other titles. She died of cancer in 2000 at the age of 36.
Freestyle skier Sarah Burke is also receiving her own stamp. Burke died two years ago while training in Utah.
