Several employees at the city of Ottawa are being shown the door.
About 25 full time-equivalent positions within the Community and Social Services Department are being slashed.
About a dozen workers will be declared redundant, eight will lose their roles outright and another five will move to other basic positions.
Some were told Tuesday, others last week.
More cuts are on the horizon.
In a memo to councillors, the department's manager Aaron Burry said another 12 full time equivalent positions will have to be eliminated next year.
Burry said this latest round of job cuts were approved when city council passed the 2014 budget.
