The City of Ottawa is cutting ties with Pine View Municipal Golf Course and new operators are taking the reigns.
Pine View Golf Course Inc. is being tasked with turning around what to date has been a bleak financial picture.
The National Capital Commission (which owns the land on Blair Road) announced the new operators Wednesday, after city council decided it shouldn't be in the golf business.
The group's spokesperson Mike Copeland told CFRA News one strategy for boosting the course's profile will be a focus on junior camps in the summer.
"We're going to be the only course in the city that can put those kids on the course every day of the week," said Copeland. "The 36 holes at Pine View are key and the executive course, which is perfect for teaching on, it won't impact regular play."
He said the course's location at Blair Road near the Queensway grabbed their interest.
"It's the sole reason," said Copeland. "You know there's probably 20 golf courses in the Ottawa-area for sale. If we just wanted to be in the golf business for the sake of being in the golf business, there were others to look at."
Copeland said rates would stay the same for the time being.
City Council voted to get out of operating the course, after years of losing money.
The course owes the city about $1.5-million, but councillors agreed to waive it.
