Local students using phone app to report bullying

A local school board is using a smartphone app for students to quickly report acts of bullying with anonymity.

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario introduced the free app last month.

Colleen Ruth, a student at St. Michael Catholic High School in Kemptville, tells CTV Ottawa it's a useful tool.

"I could be walking down the hallway, see somebody who's being bullied and report it. It may cause bullies to think twice."

School principals and vice-principals receive an e-mail alert within a minute whenever the app is used.

It can also report acts of kindness.
