Survey finds most people plan to spend around $50 on Valentine's Day presents

What do you plan on buying for your Valentine?

A new survey by deal finding website BargainMoose.ca finds 90 per cent of respondents plan to spend less than $100, while 71 per cent say they'll spend less than $50.

Eva Webster, a blogger with BargainMoose.ca told CFRA most people felt that's also the amount of money people feel should be spent on them.

"A small portion felt like Valentine's Day should be some big event," she said. "A big thing that we found was that about 80 per cent of people found that it's basically a made up celebration just to get you out shopping."

Chocolate, flowers and electronics are at the top of people's wish lists for Valentine's Day. Jewellery, clothing and gift cards rank slightly lower in popularity.
