A 23-year-old woman from Kanata was one of the two people killed in an early-morning collision Friday on Highway 17, just east of Chalk River.
Ontario Provincial Police in Petawawa say the victim has been identified as 23-year-old Meghna Atwal of Kanata. Atwal died when the car she was driving collided head-on into a transport truck around 8:20 a.m. Also killed in the collision was18-year-old William Eddy-Duma of St. Joseph Township, Ontario.
The three other passengers in the car were sent to hospital, one of them with serious injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Friends of Atwal and Eddy-Duma took to social media sites to pass along their condolences.
"Meghna, you beautiful girl - May you always rest in peace," wrote Courtney McLaughlin on Twitter.
"RIP Will you were an amazing friend, and Meghna you were also an amazing friend and outstanding roommate, I can't believe this is happening," wrote Ryan on Twitter.
"RIP Meghna Atwal," wrote Erika Anderson on Facebook. "You were taken from us far too soon. You were such an amazing friend with a wonderful spirit. Missing you so much. Love you lady."
