University of Ottawa "Guerrilla Recycles"

By: Jasleen Singh, Carleton University Journalism

Students at the University of Ottawa spent Thursday sorting through blue bins for the annual Recycle Mania competition.

The friendly competition challenged universities and colleges across Canada and the U.S. to recycle the most products over a 10-week period.

Students took part in what's called Guerrilla Recycling.

Student Geoffrey Carter told CFRA a lot of students want to recycle, but don't always know what belongs in the blue bin.

"The gap with people is with knowing about these types of things and knowing how to recycle," Carter said. "There is not a lack of want in the university community, there is a lack of knowledge. So the more we can spread the word, the better."

The event is open to everyone and runs every Thursday until March 27th.
