Rape culture is present at Ottawa U and it IS something the Student's Federation there is trying to combat with better education and dialogue.
Allegations of sexual assault and violent sexual comments made online are throwing the conversation into the spotlight.
The Students Federation of the University of Ottawa's vice president of equity, Nicole Desnoyers, said some good can come of these disturbing cases.
"We've received a lot of support, overwhelming support from students on this campus speaking out against this. We're taking this issue very seriously and we're moving forward with engaging students on the issue of rape culture," she said.
"These are not isolated incidents and we need an education strategy for dealing with the perpetrators," said Women's Studies doctoral candidate and part-time professor Amanda Watson.
The university's administration is reviewing both matters internally alongside the police investigation into the sex assault allegations.
