RCMP in Cornwall are warning snowmobile drivers to be on the lookout while they're out enjoying the trails as this winter weather continues to hang on.
Officers discovered a booby-trap on a Cornwall area trail about two weeks ago, where someone had strung a line of rope across the trail.
Const. Jean Juneau of the RCMP's Cornwall Regional Task Force said there was no question about why someone strung that rope.
"It's like trapping for a wild animal. If you're trapping for a rabbit you create a path that's the only way you're going to go through. That particular area the ski trail would be going specifically there, you cannot go around otherwise you're on the bridge," Juneau said.
He said if his officer hadn't been very observant he would have been badly hurt or possibly killed if he'd been closelined while patrolling the snowmobile trails.
Juneau said the RCMP have not come across anything like this before.
