Asbestos-filled tiles, crumbling walls, and inefficient plumbing are only some of the problems parents say plague Broadview Public School now.
Now, after a three-year campaign, the provincial government has announced a new Broadview by the 2015-2016 school year.
Stephanie Kraze, chair of the parents' council at the school says the rebuild is a long time coming.
"We are ecstatic and we are over the moon," she says. "We just can't wait to get started and get our kids into a better school."
Ottawa Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi says the school's parents have been working tirelessly over the past three years, meeting with provincial government representatives and the school board to build a better Broadview.
The government also announced today three new elementary schools for the city. A new public school will open in Avalon, and two new schools, one public and one Catholic, will open in Barrhaven.
