Ottawa city council may actually hear a yes from the provincial government in response to a request to equip school bus stop arms with cameras.
On Friday, Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli said, although it's up to his transportation ministry colleagues to approve the change, he is behind it.
"My initial reaction is it makes sense, and I can't see the harm in doing it, and I can see the possible good in doing it," he told reporters. "Ontario has the safest roads, the lowest fatality rate per capita in North America and we want to keep it that way, and this could possibly be one more weapon in our arsenal to do that."
Last month, councillors voted unanimously to formally ask the province for the cameras in a bid to try and deter impatient motorists who do not remain behind stopped school buses.
