Ottawa Police officer charged with assault

CFRA News staff

An Ottawa Police officer is facing assault charges after an incident that happened yesterday morning.

Police are not releasing the name of the officer charged or any details about the assault because they say it relates to a "domestic matter."

The officer will also be charged for failing to properly store his service-issued firearm.

The proffessional standards section is also investigating and police say there may be charges under the police services act.

"This matter is before the courts and it is important that we respect due process," said Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau in an emailed statement. "The Ottawa Police Service expects the conduct of all officers to be of the highest standard and reflective of the values of our community."
