Man struck and killed by train in South Glengarry

Stormont Dundas and Glengarry OPP say a man is dead after being struck by a VIA Rail passenger train in South Glengarry Township.

The collision happened at around 4:10 Monday afternoon.

OPP have not identified the age or name of the man.

Mylene Belanger, a spokesperson for VIA Rail, says passengers on the eastbound train could not take a bus to Montreal, because the train wasn't in a safe place for passengers to disembark.

Belanger says VIA extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the victim, and adds the locomotive engineers involved have been temporarily relieved of their duties, and that they will be given all available support.
