Six-time Olympic medallist Clara Hughes has started her 12,000 km journey across Canada.
She pedalled out of Toronto today for Clara's Big Ride for Bell Let's Talk, a 110-day trek to spark conversations about mental health.
"What connects us as well is the struggle and when we talk about mental health, everyone is connected and knows what that struggle is," said Hughes. "It's time we stop ignoring the struggle and start talking about it.
Hughes has been vocal about her own struggles with depression and will visit 95 communities on her mission to a stigma-free Canada.
"What this is about is not about me, or even the bike, or one person," she said. "It is about the collective story of Canada when it comes to mental health. It is about connecting us all to the reality of the stigma connected to mental illness, and hopefully, hopefully ending this ride effectively erasing it even more."
Her tour will end as she cycles onto Parliament Hill on Canada Day.
Bell is CFRA's parent company.
