Single-car collision claims life of 20-year-old man from Clarence-Rockland

OPP in Russell County are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision in Clarence Township overnight Saturday.

Police found an overturned vehicle in the ditch on Henrie Road around 3:15 a.m. Sunday. They report the driver, who appeared to have been alone, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Xavier Ladoucer-Rochon of Clarence-Rockland driving a 2002 grey Chevrolet Malibu.

Police are investigating if alcohol or seatbelt use was a factor in the death.

Xavier's father, Luc Rochon, says he is devastated over the loss of his son, the youngest of four children.

"He was my friend too," Rochon said. "He's never coming back."

Luc Rochon says in the middle of the night, Xavier's friend called to tell him Xavier was driving home from a party, and he had been drinking.

Rochon says he wishes his son had never gotten behind the wheel, and that one of his friends would have insisted on taking his keys.

Rochon says police knocked on his door around 4 a.m. to tell him Xavier was killed in the crash.

Friends and family filled Rochon's home on Sunday afternoon to pay their respects and share memories of Xavier.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week.

OPP are asking anyone with information about the accident to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
