It might be the final day of winter on Wednesday, but the City of Ottawa is already thinking about summer.
A new report headed for the Planning Committee recommends the City cut patio fees for restaurants by 10 per cent this season. It would apply to businesses that put patios on City sidewalks and municipal property.
The report says the one-year reduction would give staff the chance to review the on-going fee structure for 2015.
The City will also be considering a proposal to separate outdoor sidewalk patio fees from other encroachments.
The Ottawa Council of Business Improvements Areas says Ottawa businesses pay higher fees for outdoor patios than other municipalities, including Toronto.
