Police warn of targeted vehicle contents thefts

CFRA News staff

Ottawa Police are warning drivers about a scam involving flat tires in area parking lots and on streets.

They say there have been three separate occasions where people's tires were tampered with, leaving them with a flat tire.

A man approached to offer help and while the driver fixed the tire, valuable items were stolen either by the initial stranger or an accomplice.

Police believe the suspect or suspects may target more people and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

They say the victims have offered a vague description of the suspect as a heavyset, middle eastern male.

Those with information can contact Det. Stephen Plummer, East District Investigations of the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222, ext. 3415 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 or toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
