Local cancer researchers get $1.7M boost

The Canadian Cancer Society is pouring $1.7-million into research in Ottawa.

The society has awarded the money to three local researchers, including Dr. John Bell at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, who will get $1.2-million over the next five years for his research to tailor the use of cancer-fighting viruses for pancreatic cancer.

The rest of the money will go toward a study on whether the immune system has a role in breast cancer development and to test whether group therapy would help address the fear of recurrence in women diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancers.
