Man who rescued drowned Ottawa man's son speaks out

The man who heroically pulled a 7-year-old boy from the ocean off of a Veradero, Cuba beach says he's still haunted by the events of last Wednesday where a 40-year-old Ottawa man drowned.

Robert Wudkevich, or "Woody," tells CTV Ottawa he swam out to Yue Liu and Liu's son.

"Connor was the closest one to me," he explains. "He was on his back but had stopped kicking. I managed to grab his shoulder."

Wudkevich says while he's grateful he was able to save Connor, he's sad that he couldn't save his dad.

The man from Nelson, BC returned to the water, but Liu had been carried further out and could not be revived when lifeguards got him to shore.
