Mayor Jim Watson's recommendation to commemorate Nelson Mandela will be voted on next week.
During his state of the city address in January, Mayor Watson recommended the front yard of City Hall's Heritage Building, where the Human Rights Monument stands, be named after the late South African statesman. He submitted the proposal to the commemorative naming committee in February, which launched a month-long consultation.
The economic and finance development committee will vote on the recommendation next Tuesday, before it heads to full city council.
Mandela was made an honourary Canadian citizen in 2001. He died last December.
