Another teacher at Eric Leighton's high school is testifying Wednesday afternoon as the inquest into the 18-year-old's death continues in federal court.
Kevin Nearing supported Scott Day in his two years of teaching.
Nearing was the first shop teacher at Mother Teresa and taught the transportation technology course for 12 years before moving to co-op the year Day was hired.
He said he helped with the transition to a new teacher and helped Day along the way.
Nearing said the school had a "solid, safe work place for the students" and emphasized again the TOP priority was always students' safety.
He said the curriculum has room for special projects like the BBQ because the skills are transferable.
Many questions have raised about how relevant the BBQ project was to an auto shop class.
Nearing said he did special projects as well but his often involved recycled auto parts used to make art.
