Commercial fire on Old Innes Road causes extensive smoke damage

There is no damage estimate available following a three alarm commercial blaze that took firefighters about two hours to get under control.

It's believed the fire started in the loading dock area of Chemchamp, a recycling company at 1230 Old Innes Road.

Deputy Chief Gerry Pingitore says firefighters had to use thermal imaging equipment to find the source of the fire amid heavy smoke.

"They managed to not only extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining units but they also managed to ensure the fire didn't spread across the roof as well because there were a couple of vents that were showing flames," said Pingitore.

There were no injuries in the fire and the exact cause hasn't been determined.
