The Rideau Carleton Raceway is getting a much-needed boost from the province.
The raceway is getting around $26-million from the province over the next five years as part of the Horse Racing Partnership Plan, which comes into effect Tuesday.
The plan will see the government invest up to $500-million across Ontario to support the horse racing industry.
Rideau Carleton spokesperson Alex Lawryk said the funding will keep the racetrack open.
"Rideau Carleton Raceway is delighted that the Premier has fulfilled the promise to sustain racing across the province," said Lawryk in a statement. "The commitment to regional racetracks will ensure the continuance of the industry and competitive racing in Ottawa."
The money will allow the raceway to run about 90 races per season.
