Manslaughter plea in 2011 stabbing of Ottawa man

A 30-year-old prostitute who stabbed an Ottawa man on New Year's Day in 2011 has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

43-year-old Simon Hubbard had been ringing in the holiday with friends before meeting Jennifer Bird downtown and taking her to his apartment for a drink.

While it isn't known what led to the stabbing, Bird says Hubbard did nothing to provoke the attack.

Eric Dewhurst, one of Hubbard's friends, tells CTV Ottawa the plea does not bring peace.

"We're all devastated. We're not moving on. He was a great guy who didn't deserve to go this way."

The crown is asking for a 14-year sentence.
