Front desk service hours cut at police headquarters

Ottawa Police are cutting hours at the Elgin Street Headquarters in a bid to become more cost effective.

Effective April 15th, the front desk, which provides services like filing incident and motor vehicle collision reports, as well as criminal and police record checks will no longer be open 24 hours a day.

The desk will only be staffed between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Police say there isn't enough demand for the desk to be staffed overnight, so the staff there will be redeployed elsewhere.
