Woman gets 12 years for stabbing New Edinburgh man

Jennifer Bird has been sentenced to 12 years in prison less time already served for manslaughter in the stabbing death of Simon Hubbard.

Bird admitted to attacking Hubbard, 43, in his New Edinburgh apartment New Year's morning 2011.

The assault happened hours after the two met in the area of York Street and King Edward Avenue.

After being stabbed several times, Hubbard left his apartment but collapsed and died a short time later in a nearby alley.

A day later, Bird, who's a prostitute, was arrested in connection with Hubbard's death.

During her trial, it was revealed Bird had a history of violence; she had been convicted for three previous stabbings in which her victims survived.
