Rideau Valley Conservation Authority closely watching flooding conditions

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is keeping a close eye on flooding in specific areas along the Rideau River.

Those areas include a portion of the surface of Rideau River Drive in Old Ottawa South and Hilly Lane in North Grenville.

Patrick Larson with the Authority says they're concerned about ice jams in the Lower Rideau, below Hog's Back.

"[The City has] been working extremely hard to get it out this year, but facing some real difficulties with thick ice and low flows to start," he tells CFRA's Madely in the Morning. "They're moving along pretty well now with these flows, but there is still some ice in the river."

Larson says flooding likely will not be severe this year, but it is expected to last over the weekend.

It's been a slower-than-usual spring melt; the usual target date is March 26.
