Ottawa residents can expect a near-record high temperature at 24 degrees today with a chance of showers, but temperatures will plunge overnight.
By Tuesday at noon, the temperature will fall to below zero degrees. Environment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimbell said the nation's capital will also be hit with freezing rain and snow as it gets colder.
"Basically we're going to be going from spring to summer to winter in just over 24 hours or so," Kimbell said.
This drastic temperature change is the result of a battle between a cold front and a warm front, he said. Today, the warm weather has won over, but the cold front is creeping in.
Tuesday's precipitation won't stay, Kimbell said, with only about two centimetres of freezing rain and snow expected. Areas to the west, like Arnprior and Renfrew, can expect more accumulation.
