A 54-year-old woman, who was struck by an SUV Saturday morning, has died.
The woman was hit on Parkdale Avenue between Inglewood and Ruskin, in front of the Ottawa Hospital's Civic Campus.
Ottawa Police say an 80-year-old man was trying to park the vehicle at the time. He reversed but bumped into a parked car. The woman ran out in front of his vehicle when she saw the collision. At that point, the driver accelerated forward, hitting a second parked car and the woman.
The vehicle jumped the west curb and stopped on the lawn of a house on Parkdale Avenue.
There are reports that the elderly man driving was the victim's father. Police will not confirm, saying only that the two are known to each other.
When paramedics arrived at the scene of the collision, they found the woman with multi-system traumatic injuries and no vital signs. Crews tried to revive her before she was admitted to the trauma centre, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police had closed Parkdale Avenue, between Ruskin and Carling, for several hours Saturday afternoon to investigate. The road has since reopened.
