Carleton University Intern, Hilary Thomson

Residents and businesses in Ottawa Valley South are celebrating improved access to wireless high speed internet in their area today.

Jim Pine, the co-lead of the Eastern Ontario Regional Network, said 40,000 homes and businesses now have improved access to internet in their area.

"This project has changed the landscape for everybody and we're really pleased that this zone is all completed and people are already getting access to internet services at higher speeds and capacities," he said.

The entire project is set to be finished by the end of the year and will provide almost 50,000 square kilometers of rural Eastern Ontario with access to improved wireless high speed internet.
