Man charged in five bank robberies

Ottawa Police have laid charges against a 37-year-old man in connection with a series of bank robberies in January.

The five robberies took place between January 2nd and 13th at banks on Prince of Wales, Bank Street and Ridgewood Avenue.

In most cases the suspect was armed with a handgun and in one instance witnesses reported seeing a dye-pack explode as he jumped over a fence to get away.

George Morris has been charged with nine counts of robbery, five counts of wearing a disguise, along with multiple gun-related charges.

Police say Morris was already in custody and that he will appear in court Thursday.
