City staff are looking at ways to make the suburbs more livable.
Suburban ward councillors took part in a forum Thursday morning as part of the Building Better and Smarter Suburbs study project taking place this year.
It's about making communities that have the proper infrastructure, transit and school zones and Barrhaven Councillor Jan Harder said it's important to ensure services are in place as the suburbs grow.
"Often there is too long a time between when the school opens, when the park is built, when the library opens and we do have problems," she said. "The mathematical equation as to our development that the city has set is not the right way to go."
She said that will mean going back and changing their one-size-fits all policies adopted post-amalgamation.
City Staff will make their recommendations on a plan to council in November.
