Via Rail will resume normal operations at four Ottawa rail crossings Thursday evening.
Spokesperson Jacques Gagnon told CFRA maintenance at the crossings at Fallowfield, Greenbank, Jockvale and Strandherd would be completed at that time.
However, Gagnon said crews will still be on scene at the Woodroffe and Transitway crossings.
"We'll keep an addition eye or attention on these because of the sensitivity of the tragic accident on September 18th, which had nothing to do with the crossing signals, but we'll continue to be on site to ensure that everything is going to be back to normal," said Gagnon.
It's not clear what caused the signals at those crossings to repeatedly go into fail safe modes, but Via has hired two engineering firms to investigate the occurrences.
Via will hold a technical briefing on the matter with city councillors Friday.
Late last week Ottawa Police closed an investigation into possible tampering at the railway signals, saying there was no evidence to support that theory.
