University Students paint community housing complex

Carleton Journalism Intern, Hilary Thomson

A group of University of Ottawa students rolled up their sleeves this morning to slap a fresh coat of paint on the Ottawa Community Housing complex on Richelieu Street in Vanier.

Councillor Marianne Wilkinson, the chair of the OCH Board of Directors says that by doing this the students are improving the quality of life for everyone living in the area.

“Living in a nice place helps to raise people’s spirits and a lot of the people we have living in our housing have been through some pretty rough times,” Wilkinson said.

The more we can to get people back on their feet and be self-sufficient the better, she said. The students said they decided to volunteer their time because they wanted to do something that made a difference to those who are less fortunate.
