VIA Rail says it may not have been OC Transpo buses that caused the advanced warning signals to go into fail safe mode on April 28 at the level rail crossings at Fallowfield Road.

VIA Rail spokesperson Mylene Belanger says it's essential that buses, and all other vehicle traffic, stop at the designated safe line when lights are flashing.

"It's true that following further investigation by VIA Rail and by our RailTerm engineering staff it was determined that fail safe mode my not have been caused," by the OC Transpo buses, she said.

In an emailed statement VIA said the problems with the light were caused by a misalignment on the south side.

A report on the cause of the ongoing issues with the advanced warning signals will be made public May 15.

Mayor Jim Watson said he was pleased that VIA retracted its prior, false, statements.
