Ottawa realtor charged with attempted murder

An Ottawa realtor has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after an attack in his rural Ottawa home this weekend.

Reports say the victims in the attack at an upscale home in Ashton are the man's wife and daughter. The wife suffered serious cuts in the incident and her daughter's finger was cut off with a butcher knife.

Labib Khawas appeared in court Monday morning via video link from the Ottawa-Carleton detention Centre.

He was ordered not to have any contact with three people.

A representative for Khawas' lawyer said despite reports, they had no evidence that the incident was an attempted honour killing.

Khawas is scheduled to return to court Thursday.
