School bus companies still at odds with transportation authority

Ottawa-area parents could be scrambling come September, if their kids take the school bus.

Ottawa's two major school bus companies may withdraw their service unless they get more money. This could affect as many as 800 bus routes in the new school year.

Stock Transportation and First Student Canada said they wouldn't accept the deals they were offered for September. They had asked for a 10-12 per cent increase, far above the two per cent allowed by transportation grants.

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority wouldn't answer directly when asked if Stock had pulled out, only saying that negotiations continue.

They say parents and students shouldn't worry yet, and to expect an update as soon as Tuesday.
