OPH helps tanning bed operators comply with new laws in effect as of May 1

Now that provincial legislation banning everyone under 18 from using tanning beds has come into full effect Ottawa Public Health is reaching out to operators in the city to help them comply with the rules.

Already they've made contact with 62 tanning bed operators to have them register with public health.

The operators can also get help creating signage to let patrons know they won't be accepted without ID proving they're 18 or older.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Isra Levy says the next step will be enforcement and issuing fines for operators who don't follow the new rules.

Ottawa Public Health was a major driver of the new legislation, which came into effect May 1.
